Candle Safety Tips for Every Candle Lover
You've got your gorgeous, scented candles—now let's make sure you enjoy them safely while keeping that cozy vibe intact. These tips will help protect your home, yourself, and your beloved candles so they last even longer!
Keep Your Candles in Sight
It’s tempting to just light a candle and forget about it, but safety first! Always snuff out your candle if you’re leaving a room or heading to bed. Make sure the wick’s ember has completely stopped glowing before you step away.
Skip the Night Light and Blackouts
While candles are beautiful, they’re not meant for bedtime or replacing flashlights in a power outage. Keep it safe with battery-powered lights instead—candles can wait for another romantic evening!
Flammable ≠ Fabulous 🔥
Keep burning candles far away from flammable household items like curtains, books, or your favorite fluffy blanket. They’re better for snuggling, not sizzling.
Candle Love is Pet- and Kid-Proofed 🐾
Little hands and wagging tails can easily accidentally knock over candles. Keeping them out of reach ensures everyone stays safe—and your decor stays intact.
Trim Your Wick for the Perfect Flicker ✂️
Before each use, trim your wick down to ¼ inch for a clean, even burn. This helps minimize soot and keeps those flames from getting out of control.
Timing is Everything ⏳
Aim to burn your candles for no more than 1-2 hours at a time. This extends the life of your candle and reduces potential overheating or fire hazards.
Don’t Burn to the Bottom 📏
When your candle is down to its last ½ inch of wax, it’s time to say goodbye. Burning it beyond that point can overheat the container and increase the risk of damage or injury.
Big Flame, Smoky Candle? Pause and Reset
If your candle starts acting up—flames too big, smoky, or flickering wildly—it’s time for a timeout. Extinguish it, trim the wick, and check for any drafts before relighting.
Draft-Free Zone 🌀
Keep your candles away from vents, fans, or breezy areas. Drafts can cause uneven burning, flared flames, or even accidents.
Use the Right Candle Holder
Place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface and use a holder designed specifically for candles. This protects your furniture and catches dripping wax with ease.
Keep the Wax Pool Clean ✨
Debris like wick trimmings and matchsticks in the wax might seem harmless but can lead to uneven burns or flare-ups. A clean wax pool = a happy candle.
Well-Ventilated Rooms for Better Burns
Burning multiple candles in cramped spaces? Not ideal! A well-ventilated room helps candles burn cleanly and smells divine.
No Peeking (or Touching!) Liquid Wax 🔥
Candle wax gets hot when it melts. Avoid touching or moving a lit candle to protect yourself (and avoid messes).
Avoid Sharp Tools for Cleanups
Never use sharp objects to scrape wax out of your glass candle holders—it can weaken or even break the glass. Stick to softer methods to keep everything intact.
Space Matters for Multiple Candles 🌟
Leave at least three inches between burning candles to prevent unwanted melting, drafts, or irregular burns.
Skip the Water, Use a Snuffer
Water and candles don’t mix! Avoid splattering hot wax or shattering glass by extinguishing your flame with a snuffer instead.
Bring it Inside
If your candles are being shipped in hot weather make sure to bring them inside as soon as you are able. Avoid placing your candle in direct sunlight as this could cause yellowing over time.
How to Use Wax Melts
Break away 1-2 cubes and place them in your electric tart or tealight warmer. Always use caution around pets and children as wax can become hot. Wax melts are a great alternative to candles for people who prefer not to have or are unable to have an open flame. Wax melts do not have wicks and they are not candles. We need a warmer to melt them. We hope you and your family and your loved ones will enjoy our wax melts i.e flameless and fragrant and safe as well.
